Preview Songs From Adam And Kris' Albums
Posted November 10, 2009
Last week, preview clips of Adam Lambert's upcoming album were leaked. This morning, it's American Idol winner Kris Allen.
Hear clips of every track on both albums below.
Which brings us to the game fans of the show like to play: speculating about who'll sell more albums, the winner, or a runner up.
It's a valid examination. Afterall, American Idol's stated purpose is to find and make the next big music star. If someone who didn't win becomes the more successful recording artist, it could be argued that "America got it wrong."
Mostly, America has gotten it right. Kelly Clarksonhas sold more music than Justin Guarini. A lot more! But Chris Daughtry, season five's fourth-place finisher, has outsold winner Taylor Hicks and second-placer, Katherine McPhee, combined. Add in the sales of every runner-up except Clay Aiken and Daughtry still prevails.
To be honest, I wrote that comparison about Daughtry without even looking it up because it seemed like it had to be true. I've paused my typing to Google the actual sales figures. And not only is it true--but with a new album out, Daughtry's sales are on track to eclipse the combined totals of every Idol second-place finisher, including Aiken.
Getting people to vote for you because they like you on TV is one thing. But personally, I'm more impressed by getting people to buy your music.
