Shrek 2 Shrek 2 made 11.8 million on its first day in theaters, setting a new record for the Wednesday debut of an animated flick. The movie is playing in a record 4,163 theaters this weekend.

Perfect casting: Jessica Simpson has landed the role of Daisy Duke in the upcoming big-screen remake of The Dukes of Hazzard.

Avril Lavigne performs a free concert for AOL's Broadband Rocks Monday night at 9pm. Her sophomore CD, Under My Skin, hits stores Tuesday.

Usher's "Burn" tops the Billboard magazine singles chart for the second week. Usher's "Yeah" held the spot for 12 weeks before "Burn" took over--so that's 14 straight weeks of number one R.U. (Raymond Usher)!

Confessions Part III: Usher admits he loves Krispy Kremes so much that as a kid he dreamed of owning one someday (a franchise… not a donut).

Was that Britney Spears smoking weed in Amsterdam with her new boyfriend? Witnesses say "yes!"

D12 is hitting the road--without their lead singer, Eminem. Info here.

Insiders who say they know the gender reveal that Friends star Courtney Cox will be spending all her new-found free-time taking care of a baby… girl. One report says it may even be twins.

From the 'hood… now he's on the hood: Rapper 50 cent has sponsored a race car for an upcoming event in England.

Rehearsals continued this week, and word is Madonna has some "shocking" surprises planned for her Re-Invention tour. Opening night is Monday in Los Angeles.

Hats off to… America. You did the right thing, and sent Jasmine Trias back home to Hawaii. Fantasia Barrino and Diana Degarmo face-off next week for the title of "American Idol."

What? Why?!! Cheesy TV legend David Hasselhoff has enlisted rapper-turned-actor Ice-T to produce his first hip hop album. What's scarier than a first David Hasselhoff rap album? A second one!

American Idol The voting's been wack this season, yes? Producers of American Idol have announced viewers will be able to vote for four hours after next week's final--that's double the usual time-period.

So, how did American Idol become Florida 2000? Broadcasting & Cable has an excellent story explaining what's wrong with Idol voting.

Tonight, it's the Idol Results Show. I'm sticking with my bad feeling. Even though she's clearly the most talented, Fantasia Barrino is gone tonight. Hope I'm wrong…

BTW, Paula Abdul is suing that nail salon that botched her manicure so bad she had to have the nail surgically removed. Paula's been a little wacky on the show lately (crying)--must be the pain killers.

Bad Jessica news: In a surprise, ABC has passed on the show and won't be airing the planned Jessica Simpson sitcom next fall. Who's the head of programming over there--Britney Spears?

Bad Nick news: Jessica's hubby, Nick Lachey won't be in a sitcom on ABC either. He'd been cast in Hot Momma, but it didn't make the fall schedule.

Good Jessica news: Look for Jessica Simpson and her sister Ashlee in upcoming TV ads for Hershey's new breath mints.

Good Nick news: Just joking… there is none.

Jesse Palmer decides between Tara and Jessica on tonight's The Batchelor finale.

ABC is casting for the next The Batchelor… and they're looking for as firefighter this time. Info here.

Usher's Confessions tops the Billboard album chart again (its seventh week at number one).

New CDs out today: Lenny Kravitz, Baptism; Alanis Morissette, So Called Chaos.

New in theaters today: Shrek 2 (Some critics saying it's even better than the first!)

Incubus is on Letterman tonight. Everlast on Leno.
