Shouldn't this sort of thing be used against the enemy? Celebrity couple Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey recently left a tip of only $14 on a restaurant bill of $1,100 at a posh L.A. eatery. Jessica wanted to leave more, but Nick was overheard saying, "We have to cut corners somewhere." Hey, how 'bout spending a little less than a thousand dollars on your lunch! People magazine reports that Nelly Furtado is a mommy. A daughter named Nevis was born September 20th in Toronto. A new reality show set in a hair salon? Yep. American Idol Kelly Clarkson portrays Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Brenda Lee on the season premiere of American Dreams Sunday night on NBC. It's her first acting role since From Justin to Kelly--guess that make this her first acting role! A convicted felon named Kevin Skinner will appear on Dateline Sunday night with the shocking news that he's witnessed Whitney Houston taking drugs, once sold her drugs, and believes she's addicted to drugs. Most viewers won't be shocked by the "shocking news." Outkast performs on Letterman tonight. Jack Black's group Tenacious D is on Leno. ![]() Jun picked up the half-million dollar prize last night on CBS's Big Brother 4. Fellow finalist Alison didn't have the support of the jury--made up mostly of people whose backs she stabbed. ABC's 8 Simple Rules… topped the ratings Tuesday night. The episode was the first of the final three filmed with John Ritter before his death. Dave Matthews Band performed in front of 80,000 fans last night in Central Park, raising money and awareness for the music programs of New York City's public schools. Actors Kevin Bacon, Tim Robbins, and the casts of Sex And The City, Law & Order, and The Sopranos were spotted enjoying the show. Rapper DMX has just set Billboard chart history. His latest CD, Grand Champ debuts at number one--the first time an artist has reached the top spot with each of their first five albums. DMX claims Grand Champ will be his last album. Yeah, right! Like the record companies will let that happen. Look at Tupac… he's still making albums, and he's not even alive! Somebody's working on a script for a sequel to Underworld at this very moment. The werewolves-vs.-vampires flick is number one at the box office. More importantly, it's looking to be highly profitable. It earned back all the money it took to make it during its opening weekend. She still kisses boys, too. Britney Spears has been snapped by the paparazzi smooching one of her backup dancers. That's good publicity. But the backup dancer is married, and his wife is expecting their child. That's bad publicity. Britney Spears performs on Saturday Night Live October 18th. Halle Berry hosts. This could mark the first time that EVERY SINGLE MAN in America watches the same TV show! Andre 3000, half of the colorful rap-duo Outkast, is up for the role of Jimi Hendrix. A biopic about the rock legend is being directed by the Hughes Brothers (Menace II Society). Alanis Morissette has apologized for yelling, "Thank you, Brazil," at her concert in Peru! The singer admits she "was drunk." A celebrity first--an honest explanation for their embarrassing goof-up. Big season premieres tonight on NBC and CBS, including return episodes of Friends, Will & Grace and C.S.I. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Elvis Costello performs tonight on A&E's Live By Request. ![]() Meanwhile, the Grammy Awards return to Los Angeles, after a year in New York City. Music's biggest night will be February 8th at the Staples Center. The UPN show Enterprise will change its name to Star Trek: Enterprise. This is important news only if you attend conventions dressed as "Worf." Look for a new Beyonce Knowles solo album in February. The Destiny's Child leader is also set to guest star on UPN's All Of Us, the new show produced by Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. Interesting twist: KAZAA has filed suit against the major record labels, claiming that the industry violated copyright laws in using unauthorized Kazaa software to investigate users. Nelly Furtado has changed the title of her new album to Folklore. It's still set for a November 25th release. The next natural step after ranking restaurants is… ranking albums? Zagat Survey's Music Guide hits stores next week, ranking Bruce Springsteen's Born To Run number one on a list of the top one thousand albums of all-time. The upcoming collaboration between Britney Spears and Madonna is a real duet, with the two singers trading lines in the song. Madonna even sings a verse in which she calls Brit a "sexy lady." The video for "Me Against The Music" premieres on MTV October 13th. Some people are so geeky, they'll actually pay to see a movie they don't care about to see a teaser for a movie franchise they're obsessed with: the two minute and 30 second trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King debuts in theaters Friday, running before screenings of Secondhand Lions. Survivor is back on top. The CBS show's debut last Thursday was the week's most-watched television program. Around 100,000 people are expected to attend tonight's Dave Matthews Band concert in New York City's Central Park. Considering the park's reputation, only 92,000 will leave with their wallets. ABC, NBC, and CBS have shows season-premiering tonight, including ABC's The Bachelor. That show will try to get "Funny Bob" from The Bachelorette hitched. Okay, so it's really more of a "retirement" for the 13-year-old Jack Russell terrier. But I'm not above the occasional scandalous headline. Queer Eye has a straight guy? MSNBC reports that one of the "queer guys" on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy dates (are you ready for more scandal?)… women! The supporting cast of the West Wing, Allison Janney, Richard Schiff, Bradley Whitford and John Spencer, just received significant pay raises, ending four months of negotiations. The NBC show was named Best Drama at the Primetime Emmys Sunday. Britney Spears recently spent 20 minutes trying to hail a cab in New York City, only to be ignored by drivers who didn't recognize her. Guess they don't play any Brit on that "dulcimer station" they always seem to have on. Missy Elliot has named her upcoming album. This Is Not A Test is set for a November 25th release. Expect guest appearances from Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, R. Kelly and Busta Rhymes. A U2 fan website says the band will release its next album in March. MTV pulled the plug on Tom Green's late-night talk show. Green is considering taking the show to another network. The power of Oprah: the day before Madonna appeared on Oprah to promote her children's book, The English Roses ranked number eight on Amazon.com's sales list. The day after, it shot up to number two. In the future Damon, leave the unnecessary attempts at humor to amateurs like myself. HBO's The Sopranos also snagged four Emmys, including Best Actor (James Gandolfini), Best Actress (Edie Falco), and Best Supporting Actor (Joe Pantoliano). Joey Pants' character, "Ralphie," was known for losing his head, before actually losing his head on the show! For people like myself who turn this show into some sort of team sport, here's the "final score." HBO takes home 18 trophies; CBS captures 16; NBC grabs 15; ABC tallies nine; and Fox and PBS walk away with seven each. (And that, ladies and gentlemen, marks the first-time "Fox" and "PBS" have EVER appeared in the same sentence.) Underworld was the top movie over the weekend, ringing up $22 million. Why were Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez, and Ben's brother Casey Affleck all spotted earlier today at the probate court in the Liberty County Courthouse, near Savannah, Georgia? Ben told photographers his was getting a hunting permit. But that sort of court usually handles stuff like name changes, prenuptial agreements, and… marriage licenses! Melissa Etheridge married her girlfriend, Tammy Lynn Michaels, in a California ceremony over the weekend. For those of you getting ready to picket the state of California--or move there--gay marriages are not legally recognized. Miss Florida, Ericka Dunlap, was named Miss America Saturday night in Atlantic City. Owners of a $4.5 million mansion used to house the bachelors for an upcoming The Bachelor on ABC are suing the show's producers, claiming the house was trashed while filming the reality series. It turns out California gubernatorial candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger has a cameo in The Rundown, the new flick starring The Rock, which previewed in many theaters Saturday night. The Austrian muscleman passes by the WWE muscleman and tells him to have fun. Lenny Kravitz is working on a new album that'll hit stores in February or March. Jon Bon Jovi and Ritchie Sambora are now part owners of the Philadelphia Soul, a new Arena Football League team. Hey, these guys are arena rockers and football fans, so I guess it all makes sense.
