![]() Rapper DMX was busted for trying to steal a car at New York's Kennedy Airport. Guess he figured risking jail time was better than trying to squeeze into one of those Super Shuttles! Mark Burnett (Survivor, The Apprentice) has done it again. The reality TV mega-producer has just sold his latest brainstorm to CBS. Rock Star will feature a search for the next lead singer of the band INXS. Eagle-eye fans have noticed that Britney Spears hasn't been wearing the red Kabbalah bracelet lately. People that know about this stuff say if the bracelet falls off you've got too much negative energy going on in your life. (So where is that bracelet--bottom of the Grand Canyon?) Thanks to back-to-back number ones "Yeah" and "Burn," Usher has held the top spot on the Billboard singles chart an amazing 19 consecutive weeks--that's never been done by any artist since the chart was created back in 1940!
"Burn" is number one again this week, followed by "Confessions Part II." Early word is American Idol Fantasia will knock Usher from the top spot next That episode of NBC's American Dreams where Usher portrays R&B legend Marvin Gaye will be out on DVD September 7th--part of the show's seven-disc first season set. Vanessa Carlton, Michelle Branch, and Kelly Rowland are featured in other episodes. The Nick & Jessica Variety Hour is also coming to DVD--out August 17th. Jessica Simpson tops Star magazine's list of the "12 Hottest, Richest Women in Hollywood." Some more details about J-Lo's "new" single (including quotes from my boy JK) here. New in theaters: Fahrenheit 9/11 (controversial Michael Moore doc); The Notebook (based on Nicholas Sparks' popular novel); Two Brothers (cute little twin tiger cubs). Marc Anthony is on Jay Leno tonight. Will he talk about his marriage to J-Lo? Or will he clam up like frightened little boy? --Greg Valentine
![]() Rock star/saint Bono is mentioned three times in the new Bill Clinton book (to put it in perspective, Oprah Winfrey isn't even mentioned once). Course, if Clinton was president now, the whole book would be about Jessica Simpson (for the reasons displayed in the pic above). How did Kayne West get the gig of opening for Usher on his upcoming tour? Kayne isn't ashamed to admit that he begged and pestered Mr. Raymond! Old schoolers the Beastie Boys have the number one album in the country. To the 5 Boroughs debuts on top the Billboard album chart. There hasn't been a good Hollywood sex tape scandal in a while. Well Survivor vet Jenna Lewis has stepped up to fix that! Looks like Jenna and her new husband Travis Wolfe have created their own, naked Newlyweds! American Idol runner-up Diana DeGarmo releases "Dreams," her first single, this coming Tuesday. Justin Guarini (remember him?) will appear on an upcoming episode of FOX's North Shore. I think he plays a pineapple tree. The Graham Norton Effect, hosted by the swishy and raunchy British dude of the same name, debuts tonight on Comedy Central. The lineup tonight on the WB's Pepsi Smash includes Christina Milian, Lloyd banks, Yellowcard, Houston and Aerosmith. Uncle Kracker performs tonight on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. --Greg Valentine
![]() Jessica Simpson had to cancel yesterday's concert in Providence, Rhode Island, due to a kidney infection. The most amazing woman ever (hey, I'm a DJ, not a journalist--I don't have to be "fair and balanced") is expected to resume her tour tonight in New Hampshire. Andre 3000 and Big Boi from OutKast will star in a movie musical for HBO. The flick--a period picture--will debut in theaters before it hits cable. The Backstreets Boys' comeback single is called "Climbing The Walls" (which is what they'll be doing if nobody buys it). It's expected later this summer. Looks like everybody's getting into the perfume game: Beyonce's new fragrance for Tommy Hilfiger is called "True Star," and is described as a mix of floral scents and toasted grains. Hmmm… a cross between Wizard air freshener and Malt-O-Meal (sounds delightful). Word is Britney Spears is losing about $1 million a week due to her cancelled tour. In addition, about 100 full-time employees are looking for new jobs. Some Christina Aguilera fans who bought premium tickets from a company called FansRULE still haven't gotten their money back after the singer cancelled her tour two months ago. And they may never--FansRULE is reportedly bankrupt. The 2004 edition of the Lollapalooza Tour has been abruptly cancelled. J-Lo has hired a "shoe person"--a person whose job is to make sure the diva's shoes are comfy. Hey, is the job of "thong wrangler" still open? New in theaters today: White Chicks (the Wayans Brothers dress up as…). American Idol winner Fantasia is on Jay Leno tonight. The Von Bondies perform on Letterman. --Greg Valentine
![]() Fantasia Barrino has changed her name to just "Fantasia." I'm not trying to be stupid, but how did she get an Italian last name in the first place? Fantasia's first single hits store tomorrow, featuring "I Believe" and her renditions of "Summertime" and "Chain of Fools." American Idol host Ryan Seacrest is extending the American Top 40 brand--by bringing AT40 to television as an awards show. Look for it next year on FOX ("and the winner IS…… gonna be announced right after these messages"). P. Diddy's expanding his Sean Jean clothing line to include men's suits, dress shirts and ties. "I like to think that I helped introduce the suit to the hip-hop generation," the rap mogul says. Course, it was all those court appearances that introduced Diddy to the suit.
Jay-Z may not be totally done with music. The 33-year-old rapper backtracked (a little) last week when asked if he's really retired. "I'm a human being, so all I can say is that you ask me that question today, I say yes." But Beyonce jumped in and said, "But who knows what tomorrow brings." Just one of the many reasons I love The Smoking Gun: Getting to see Kelly Ripa's "personal and confidential" correspondence with her agents, with all the juicy details of her huge new $27.5 million contract to remain part of Live with Regis and Kelly. An Avril Lavigne fan has paid $16,000 to have lunch with the singer, part of a charity auction held on eBay. Even though it's for a good cause, there better be diamonds in that macaroni and cheese! Snoop Dogg has signed on with Pony for a line of sneaks called "The One and Only." The shoes will combine Snoop's west coast style with the classic Pony design and hit stores in November. Justin Timberlake has joined a celebration in his hometown, Memphis, honoring the late Elvis Presley and the 50th Anniversary of Rock & Roll. The event is scheduled for July 5th. --Greg Valentine
